Home Gundog Training!

June 9, 2010
Nova just got some new toys.... well really they are meant for work, but she LOVES them. We got yesterday in the post some pheasant wings and some rabbit skin covered disc and ball.
After a LOT of sniffing and a few attempts at nibbling at them, we got into training and practise some "hold".
With the help of the clicker, it wasn't long until she knew exactly what she had to do and here are a few shots of her holding her trophies:

Balance training

May 27, 2010
Following chats with loads of Facebook friends and after seeing their great work. We decided to give a go at body awareness exercises. With all the personal training equipment lying around, it's a wonder why we never tried that before.
Nova loved it, she thinks it's great fun despite the fact that it is really hard to balance and she was really wobbly on the gym ball and Bosu.

It was also a great eye opener for our daily walk in Richmond park and we found some more ideas to practise balance the...

Beginner Gundog Certificate and KCGCS Silver award!!!

May 22, 2010
Today we went to the NSDTR club of UK gundog training session in the New Forest. It was testing day and we took both our beginner gundog test and the KCGCS Silver award test.
The weather was gorgeous and we saw some wild ponies and foals.
Nova was very focused and did superbly. She made barely any mistake at all and I was really pleased with how she did. That's 2 new qualifications under her belt!
Here she is very proud of herself:

After all that, she was very tired and did not move at all a...

May 16, 2010
We went to our weekly agility session this morning. Nova was very keen and focused. At the end of the class, we got told that from next week onwards we were expected to attend the advanced class!! I am very proud on how Nova has progressed, she has missed a lot of classes because of her seasons and shows and has still managed to improve a lot, she is very responsive on the course and controlled and we are bringing so speed back in the mix. Well done Nova!

April 19, 2010
Tonight at the obedience we had our first taste of Rally level1.
We had a few minutes to learn the basic signs and just had a go at the end of the lesson. It was really good fun and Nova really enjoyed it. She was wagging her tail and walking happily around the course.
If you want to see her on the course, check the video on youtube:

Nova and Best Friend Harvey

April 19, 2010
Every Monday, Nova and her best friend Harvey meet up in Richmond Park for a play date. These 2 are real terrors together and they never seem to run out of energy. They absolutely adore each others even if some of the pictures look particularly mean.... usually Nova is ruling! See loads of pictures of them on our flickr account :

Nova received her DNA profiling certificate today.

April 17, 2010
Nova is now DNA profiled. DNA profiling is similar to microchipping, it allows your dog to be identified. If for example your dog is stolen and the microchip removed a simple DNA test would still allow you to prove it is your dog if needed. Or if someone dispute that your dog is not the dam or stud of a litter, the DNA profile will allow you to prove the parentage.
DNA profile can also be used as an identification method so the puppies are identified before being sent to their new home. This a...

Luxembourg International Show

April 2, 2010
We are very pleased to report back from our first show abroad, Nova did so well and managed a 4th place in Open Bitch and and got a "very good" medal. The show was very different from the the ones we have been to in England and we got a bit stressed as we didn't know where to get our number etc....
The judge made some lovely comment on Nova's structure, head and especially movement but did mention that she was out of coat and a bit overweight (my fault!!!). Nothing we can't work on and Nova i...

Agility

March 21, 2010
We finally managed to get some pictures of Nova at the agility!!! We had a great session today and we've been told we should move soon to the advanced class!!! She really loves it but can struggle to concentrate until the end of the course. She was on her way to her first clear run when she shot off 2 obstacles before the end! It was a really long course with about 16 obstacles and loads of hand changes!
Here are a few pictures (more in the gallery):
